Check out TiLTCreations for fun things like this great tote (so pretty and practical!) ~

Do not be conformed to this world
but be transformed by the renewal of your mind,
that you may prove what is the will of God,
what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Funtry Friday ~ Head 'em up, move 'em out!

Okay, there's a list of errands so let's get movin'!
  • go to post office to mail order ***wootwootwoot*** I sold a print!  yippee!  check... and I got a bill and a bunch of junk mail =p
  • pick up prescription at Costco ~ check... and I only bought a couple of extra things =p
  • race back to Chino to grab a bale of hay from the feed store before they close...  check...

Nice bunch of people in the feed store.  Friendly, too.  Yep.  I jumped right in the middle of a 'goat conversation' before I ordered my hay.  I'm bit distracted... still trying to remember what I forgot to put on my list of stuff to do...  not enough errands...  at least it seems that way =p  What did I forget?

"What can I get for you today, maam?"
"Hi, yeah - hay - I need a bale of bermuda grass, please."
"Will that be all today, maam?"
"Yep, that'll do 'er."
"Is that 'to go' maam?"  (said with a completely straight face)
"Yes, please."  (instant automatic reply)

****hysterical laughter****

Ahem.  Well, maybe you had to be there *laughs*

...  um, and while you're at it ~ add a side of fries to that order, please =p  I think that's what I forgot *winks*

Happy Friday!

Kathy

Here, take a closer look!
Our first Meadowlark singing on the fence post!

It's Spring as far as I am concerned.  That's my story ~ and I'm stickin' to it *winks*

More tales from the woodpile!

Wow - look at this scene of a pueblo civilization ~

No - wait a minute - I think it's some fantasy world from outer space ~

I mean, really! what are all these creatures doing?

Okay - hehe - no - it's really just another incredible wonder in the woodpile!  Somehow that makes it even more amazing to me =)

So what does this look like to you?

Kathy

Mud Boggin' Monday

Well... it's muddy.  Slushy.  Cold.  Windy.  Perfect weather for mud boggin'...  and not much else!

"But this weather is soooo messin' with my 'do'!"

"phtzzzz!  Enough, already!  Make it stop!"

How's the weather where you are?  Is it messin' with your 'do', too?

Blessings and a warm fire ~

Check this out - Wow! God's amazing handiwork!

Okay ~ there are a few plusses to all the ***ouches*** I had earlier this week!  Look what I found in the wood pile ~

This was in with all of the wood I had delivered.  It is just a piece that had been cut and split ~ and look at the perfect heart!  Yes, you can see all the way through it ~ amazing!

I think God likes wood ~ Look at the cabinet door in my kitchen!
(which has nothing at all to do with the wood pile ~
except that it is wood and also amazing!)

Do you see the perfect little cross?!
More lovely awesomeness!

I found some other pretty incredible stuff in the wood pile, too ~ but I will share that another day *winks*  So, as Paul Harvey used to say ~ 'stay tuned for the rest of the story'!

Blessings,
Kathy

Virtual pARTy - Percy - Very different style for me - What do you think???

I love doing the Virtual pARTy paintings - check out their blog for all the details of the fun!  Basically they post a photo and you have 24 hours to complete a painting based on the photo.  I, of course, always have something going on in my life which brings my 24 hours down to more like 8 or less hours =p  *ack*

Hey - last time I took photos while I painted - this time I didn't even have time for that!  roflol!

I wanted to do a different style than I usually do, too - just for fun.  What do you think of Percy?  This is the 'whole enchilada'...

...but I was thinking that it might look good cropped...  (though maybe not cropped quite as much as this photo...)

What do you think?

In any case, it was lots of fun to do and I think I will do more like this.  I used four colors and some white gouache - a very limited palette for me - and LOTS of water - very 'soupy' painting.  The full size is about 9 inches by 7.5 inches and it is on 140 pound cold press archival watercolor paper with artist grade watercolors.

And, yep, this will be listed for sale - but you can give me a shout if you want and I will get this little boy right out to you ;-)

Blessings,
Kathy

Funtry Friday - Ouch! What was I thinking????

Okay - I could just say that this was revenge for my blatant ridicule of my daughter's sore muscles.  A while ago, I made some wisecrack about her age.  Yeah. I know!  roflol!  I take it all back!!!  I have gotten what I deserve =p

So here is your Funtry Friday - fun in the country for this week ~ tada ~

Okay, I needed some wood.  For the wood stove - you know, that gizmo that keeps me warm and not as broke as the gas heat?!  So, I placed an order for wood.

If you have gotten wood before, you know that this is standard procedure.  Big truck arrives, tips up the back, and dumps your wood.  You pay, and he drives away saying that he will gladly shut the gate on the way out.

For a moment, you pause, and tell yourself that this pile of wood is NOT that big and it won't take too long to stack all of this.

You know that is a big fat lie, but you keep repeating it to yourself.  Of course, you are repeating this lie to yourself while you are stacking wood.  However, as the stack grows, so does the pile...  This is the truth that you know in your heart, er... back...

Side Note:  The pile only grows while stacking.  Once stacked, wood resumes normal proportions.  You never end up with more wood than you ordered - it just feels like that while you are stacking it...

Yeah.  The lie is not working anymore.  This is a *blinking* lot of wood and now the pile has not only grown, it has moved farther away.

This is the point at which kindling is made.  Not with a hatchet, but with gravity.  Yeah.  I am too lazy to walk ten feet - I am now chucking the wood at the stack.  Some of it does turn into very nice kindling in the process =p

Oh!  Oh!  If I see that the end is in sight, can I quit???  You know - just leave it there?  Please???

Oh, bother.  The other lie is that a cord and a half of wood will fit on three pallets.  Well, it will, if I don't get sloppy.  Yeah, that's some kind of sloppy stacking there...  Um...  yeah, just drag another pallet over and place it closer to the last of the pile (a stroke of genius on my part, if I do say so!)  and I do not care if it is not pretty =p

In fact, at this point the only thing I am thinking about is what I said last time I ordered wood.  "One cord is enough.  One cord is enough.  One cord is enough."

So why do I remember it now? and not when I ordered the cord and a half of wood?

I'm sorry for laughing at your sore muscles, Cynthia.  I ***publically***and humbly appologize!

*ouch* Going to go take a hot shower now. I may drown, but it will be worth it...

*ouch*ouch*ouch*

blessings,
Kathy

Kids and Art and Fun!

When Mikayla and Naomi come to visit, I always like to do some kind of art or craft with them.  It's fun to see the world of creativity through their eyes!
This time we played with rubber stamps.  We colored the stamps with waterbased markers and printed little color pictures.  They loved that!  If you decide to do this project with kids, try to use smaller sized rubber stamps because the larger ones are too hard for them to make this work.

We also played with making some of our own 'rubber stamps'.  I cut up a piece of styrofoam (from a package of meat) into small squares.  You could cut them into any shape you wanted and that would be fun, too.  Then I gave each girl a pencil and told them to draw whatever they wanted.  In no time at all they were getting creative and poking holes and making dot to dot pictures.  When they were done, I glued a little 'handle' of another thick piece of styrofoam on the back of the handmade stamp.  We had to let the glue dry, but using a quick dry all purpose glue made that go fairly fast.  Then we inked them with my stamp pad ink and printed them.  The results were really fun!

Using 'washable markers' made this project fairly 'laundry safe'.  The only permanent ink was the stamp pad ink, so I helped the three year old ink her homemade stamp.  The six year old had it all under control.  Of course, she is running for president of the world next week, so no big surprise that she could ink her own  homemade stamp =p

Both girls really enjoyed this project enough to make more than one homemade stamp and to print and color several images.  All in all, I think this was a lot of fun and we will probably do it again =)  Give it a try!  I think this would work great for older kids, too.

Happy creating!
Blessings,
Kathy

PS   I have also seen the styrofoam used in a larger size for blockprinting.  Cut the styrofoam the size you want, draw your image onto the styrofoam, and then ink it with block printing ink and print.  EasyPeasy!  and really cheap =)

A side note:  As with all block printing, remember that your words will be reversed when you print so you have to draw them backwards to have them print frontwards.

Happy Valentine’s Day!!!

I had a wonderful day and a wonderful weekend – because I LOVE having Mikayla and Naomi visit me!

Spending time with the ones you love is a great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Hugs and love from my grandkids fill my heart and bring joy to all the corners of my day. I wonder if God doesn’t feel that way when we love Him and spend time with Him in prayer. After all, He did say that He loved us so much that He sent His Son to us. Now that’s LOVE!

Hope you had a splendid Valentine’s Day, too – full of His love!

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Blessings,

Kathy

PS - Today is the LAST DAY to comment and be entered in to win some great free gifts in my February Fun Give-Away!  Winners will be posted this week =)

"From your Valentine"

There are many stories, customs, historical notes, and fun facts associated with Valentine's Day ~ here is my favorite:

During his reign in Rome, Claudius II decided that married men were too distracted to serve in the military.  Since he needed a big army, he banned marriage in the country instead of banning married men serving in his army.  Hmmm....  proving that the logical soundness of politics just hasn't changed that much over the years.

A bishop by the name of Valentine defied the governement, stood up for what he felt was right, and performed secret marriages.  Hmmm... and suffered the consequences - he was arrested.  In addition to his arrest, Claudius II tried to convert St. Valentine to the worship of all the Roman gods.  St. Valentine stuck to what he knew to be true - Jesus Christ - and suffered more consequences.  Now, not only was he is prison for marrying people, he was scheduled to be executed because he disagreed with Claudius' religion.

During his arrest he met the daughter of his jailer and she became his friend.  His imminent death caused her a great deal of distress, so shortly before his death he wrote her a message - and signed it "From your Valentine".   He was executed on February 14, 270 AD for refusing to renounce his religion.

After learning about the history of St. Valentine a few years ago, "Happy Valentine's Day" had a little different meaning to me.  Perhaps adding sacrificial caring for others in with the mix of chocolate and flowers might be a good idea for all of us.  There are other details and stories about St. Valentine - and a ton of links out there in cyberland.  Here are a couple that I got some information from - just in case you want a further 'read' *winks*

Funtry Friday ~ Benny Bunny varies his diet...

Benny Bunny is so cute - he runs up to the fence everytime I pass by just to see what little goodie I am going to feed him.  Not sure where he got the idea that I am going to feed him every time I go past his pen...  um... nope, not sure where he got that idea at all!  roflol!
Benny likes lettuce - and carrots - and apples - and hay - and (sort of) his kibbles - and grain and....
...the tomato cage...  Yep, he left part of his lettuce for a second course of tomato cage.  Tasty, I am sure.  Kind of reminds me of Chip =p

And, truthfully, it sounded exactly the same!

I just LOVE these silly little critters *winks* and I LOVE sharing Fun in the Country - Funtry Friday with you =)  And, I LOVE having you comment to win one of those great prizes in my February Fun give-away!

Happy Monday! Don't worry, I survived the blizzard!

It was really hard, considering all of the snow we had, but I'm okay!

Yeah, I mean - look at this!  *whew* Crazy - I braved the wind and everything to get this shot!

I mean, seriously - there have got to be too many snow balls to count on my porch rail!  *shivers* (well, so, okay - I was standing in my porch and I just waved the camera out over the porch rail and snapped - but I was still cold even if I was out of the wind!)

Huh, what?  Ah, yeah, that is a normal size phillips screw you see there.  Your point would be...???  What?  you measure snow by inches?  Okay, well, I make these little puppies - well, one of them has got to be about - well, it's almost as big as that screw head!  Ah, what?  inches deep?  Well, listen here, I know that if all this stuff hadn't of melted so fast I could have mushed it together and made a snowball.  A big one - oh, say about an inch in diameter.  Hey - where are ya goin'?  Hey!!!

Huh.  Snow snob, I guess =p

Well, like I said, I braved all that wind (sort of) and blizzard conditions (sort of) because I LOVE to take pictures of weather.  Ah, weather other than sunshine =p  And, since this is the 'month of love' and we are having a lot of February Fun with our give-aways, I just wanted to share something else I LOVE - taking pictures of rain and snow =)

What do you like to photograph?  and where do you like to go to take pictures?

I like to go outside and take pictures of my animals =) and I love sharing pictures of my grandkids - and I like weather.  You may have already guessed all of that - roflol!  now it's your turn to share!

Oh, and I like great give-aways!  Find the details about my give-away ***here***

Hope you are having a ton of February Fun!

Sunday Morning Drive

It was a lovely rainy day – the kind that are not all full of wind and sideways sleet. I like drizzly days like this and I always have. I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that I was born during a rain storm.

Anyway, because it was so lovely, I thought I would share some pictures from my morning drive to church.

Nice little muddy road - but not slippery at all!

Ugh!  glad I am not going this way!  That road IS slippery =p

Oh, look! another vehicle!  It's a Paulden traffic jam!

Here we are at church.  There's some blue sky up there in the midst of the clouds, too.  Hehe - and more trucks than cars parked outside.

And, yeah - nobody parks on the pavement - roflol!  We all park in the dirt and walk on the pavement.  The church also has a very sturdy carpet just the right shade to hide all of the mud that's tracked inside =p

Lovely clouds on the way home!

and no running water in the wash - just a few puddles  =)

Hope you enjoyed the morning drive!  I am ready to go inside and warm up by the wood stove.  I'll make some hot chocolate if you would like to stop by =)

So, what did you see this morning?  sunshine?  snow?  rain? dirt roads? pavement? traffic jams?  Isn't it amazing how varied our lives are and how different our experiences are?!  So many different places to live from apartments to mansions - city to country - valleys to mountains!

Hehe - and I didn't even get to the pets, yet *winks*

Hope you had a blessed Sunday wherever you are!
Blessings,
Kathy

PS  Pastor Dave got me to thinking about all of this because he was talking about the many 'rooms' that God has prepared - each one uniquely suited to one person ~
In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so,
would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?

Funtry Friday ~ Some people have too much fun!

Ah, the rural life!  So much Country Fun!  Off the main trail - no traffic noise - mostly dirt roads - lots of room - and no mail box by your door...

Yeah, one of the questions of rural living is 'where do I get my mail?'  Where I live, there is no mail delivery at my house; however, I could set up a mail box with all the other mail boxes about three miles away from me.

Note the sturdy posts - they need to be sturdy especially on the weekends...  looks like the second one was out on the town last Friday...  and...  Um...  Well, the third one may net you some eggs with your mail!

Now the people on this road do get mail delivery at their homes.  And some of them like a nice oversize mailbox for those special deliveries ~

No joke - this is a real mailbox!  ROFLOL - you just load it up into the barrel, if you are brave enough!

Me, I am so boring - I just get my mail at the Post Office out of a little box that looks like all the other boxes.  Hmmm....  wonder if the little old PO would mind if I painted that box up a bit...

Hope you are having a Funtry Day wherever you are!
Blessings,
Kathy

Wednesday's Words - Just LOVE bad grammar =p

Hey, okay - when I write my blog posts *winks* I write just like I talk =)  And, sometimes - you just have to brace yourself (seriously) for all kinds of (well sort of) misused words... and sad grammar...  kind of...

But, check out this!  I have found a great web site to help me get my words all back in the right places and doing the right stuff.  Check this out!

Seriously - these are true and hysterical.  I LOVE (thank you February Fun for the *month of love* hehe) this one ~

2. Never use a preposition to end a sentence with. Winston Churchill, corrected on this error once, responded to the young man who corrected him by saying "Young man, that is the kind of impudence up with which I will not put!

And, if you have read my blog for a while - you KNOW how much I need to read this one =p

44. Avoid going out on tangents unrelated to your subject -- not the subject of a sentence -- that's another story (like the stories written by Ernest Hemingway, who by the way wrote the great fisherman story The Old Man and the Sea).

Okay - go check out that web site - and, after you pick yourself up off the floor from laughing so hard  - come back here and tell me which your favorite one was.  That is, if you can pick just one favorite!

Have fun!
Blessings,
Kathy

PS and if you do that - you will be entered into my great give-away!  Check out the details --- here ---  All you have to do is post a comment =)

Silly Day Fun

So, when you hand a camera to a three year old (just because you LOVE her *winks* and are carrying on the February Fun of sharing that love!) exactly what do you think she will take a picture of?  (wow - now there's a collection of bad grammer faux pas if I ever saw them =p  perhaps I should deal with that!  roflol!  hehe - later...)

Well, here's the top of the list...  Her little jacket which I made for her Mama - the one that her big sister wore a few years ago...

A close up shot of her finger...  I am sure this photo was a deliberate attempt at abstract photography from this brilliant child!

A self portrait...  Yes, I definitely think she is heading towards abstract art!  Her drawings seem to indicate that, too *winks*

Now, I wonder where she gets that creative bent to photograph the unusual...

Oh!  That last one would be a portrait of Naomi by Grammy.  Um...  of Naomi's cute little toes *winks*

Hey - what are cameras for if not to have a little fun!  And, since my grandchildren are among the top blessings in my life that I LOVE - I just had to share a little fun with Naomi.

This is the 'month of love' where we have Valentine's Day to let people know we love them.  I shared one of my favorite people - who do you count as a special blessing in your life?

I count you!
Blessings,
Kathy
